In the world of College Sports Consultants we are a unique team.
Paul Martin is our "Business lead". With international junior and professional tennis experience, Paul played at the top-10 ranked University of Texas, and graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration. 5 years later he earned an MBA from the University of Cambridge in the UK and played college tennis again. Paul still plays tennis in ITF Seniors whenever possible.
Claudio Messina is our "Performance Coaching lead". With over 10 years of performance coaching experience, Claudio has completed his Level 4 qualifications in the Italian Tennis Federation system. Claudio works with top national and international juniors and professional players. He has worked at the Waske Academy in Germany and is currently based in Rome. He currently spends his time between Rome and touring the ITF World Junior circuit, and the ATP Challenger Tour.
Marcus Willis is our "Touring Player lead". Marcus was a top-10 ITF junior, then turned pro when he was 18. He has played mostly at the Futures and Challenger levels, but shot to fame in 2016 on his epic run at Wimbledon - winning 7 straight matches, including wins against today's top 10 players Medvedev and Rublev - to meet Roger Federer in the 2nd round. In 2017 he reached the Last 16 of Wimbledon Doubles with partner Jay Clarke, defeating then world no. 1 pairing Herbert-Mahut. Today Marcus is at his best ever career ranking of #118 ATP Doubles, and is pushing hard to reach his goal of being top 100 and playing Grand Slam level doubles once again.
Between us we have a very deep view of the current world of competitive tennis that you are interested in and the value of an American University degree. We all share the firm belief that US College Tennis is the best path for 99.9% of tennis players who want to continue their tennis beyond age 18, enjoy the competitive experience, and earn a higher level education at the same time.
Going to the US to study and play tennis is a big decision. It is probably one of the biggest decisions you and your family have taken up to this point. We know how critically important it is to make the right decision.
Our approach is focused on helping you find the best possible fit for your university choice. There are so many factors to consider - location, type of university, coach personality and fit, timezone and impact on family communications, size of city, size of university, academic rigour, and academic support - just to name some of the key ones. It is a daunting task for families going through the process. We are there to advise, help, scrutinise and ensure the best possible fit is achieved.
We do not "take over" the process to rush you into a result. We do not wish for any regret to be felt by our clients. So we work very hard to guide you to making a good decision and ensuring you feel comfortable about it. We place high value on the whole family feeling good about their experience of working with our Col-Ten team.
"My experience at the University of Texas was amazing. The tennis was a very strong standard and the university experience set me up for life. I'll have great memories of my time as a Texas Longhorn forever! I would recommend it to ANY ambitious tennis player!"
Paul Martin, University of Texas, 1995-99
